BigHeart Technical Specifications
The BigHeart platform is a comprehensive information system built on modern technologies and approaches with the aim to deliver a maintainable, flexible, and scalable system. The heart of the system is the microservice architecture built on SOLID principles.
There are 5 main system components:
Customer-facing applications: WLA configuration supported
- Web Application: React SPA, Ant design system + custom components, Automated UI testing via Cypress Framework
- Native iOS Application: SWIFT 5, SWIFT UI, Automated UI testing via XCTest Framework
- Native ANDROID Application: Kotlin 1.8, Material Design UI Kit, Automated UI testing via Maestro Framework
Backoffice applications
- Admin Console: React SPA, Ant design system + custom components, Automated UI testing via Cypress Framework
- EHR portal: Angular 15 (upgrade to 16 in progress) SPA, Ant design system + custom components, Automated UI testing via Cypress Framework
Business Intelligence
- BI Engine: Power BI
- ETL & Data Warehouse: Databricks
Integrations
- SFTP integration: Secure data sharing
- REST API/Webhooks: We generate OpenAPI specification or Postman collection on demand
- Support for Standard Implementation Formats (In Preparation): HL7, FHIR, USDCI, TEFCA
Backend:
- NodeJs backend: Node 20.14.0 (current LTS) + MongoDB Atlas 5. Consists of microservice architecture with asynchronous internal messaging system (AMQP)
- Rails backend: Rails 7.1 + PostgreSQL (AWS Aurora), in process of migration to NodeJs. Primarily responsible for handling content and management of events
- BigMarker: Video conference platform. WebRTC with encrypted transmission and no software downloads. Video coding, recording, and compression format: H264. Internet bandwidth: Minimum of 2Mbps for attendees and 10 Mbps for hosts, presenters, and anyone who wants to share their microphone and camera.
Supported Systems
- Web access via the latest version of Chrome (strongly recommended) or Firefox (strongly recommended), Opera, Safari, Edge. Operating Systems Supported: Windows 10 or later, Mac OS X 10.0 or later, or Linux RHEL 5.6 or later, openSUSE 11.3 or later, or Ubuntu 10.04 or later
- Mobile access via Apple minimum iOS 15 and Android minimum 7.0 (“Nougat” or newer)
Security
- All servers are in the US, with point-in-time encrypted backups stored for 6 months.
- HIPAA compliant. ISO 9001, 14001, 27001 certifications have been acquired. HITRUST certification is in process (target 3Q2025). Industry-standard TLS and HTTPS encryption.
- Health data are physically separated and runs through different code flows
- Third-party risk assessments have been completed successfully for CVS-Aetna, United Healthgroup, and other large insurers
- Braintree, Apple Pay, and authorize.net verified merchant. PCI DSS compliant.
- Firewall settings: TCP ports 80 and 443 need to allow all traffic to pass through. For the best experience, we also recommend that UDP ports 1025 - 65535 are open.
Infrastructure
- The infrastructure is set up in AWS, except for Business Intelligence which is in Azure
- All files are stored in private S3 Buckets monitored by Amazon Macie, health data is stored in separate buckets
Accessibility:
- WCAG 2.1 level A and AA compliance is in process for end users' flows.
Software Development Lifecycle
- Deployment to every stage (Development, QA, Staging, Production) is via automated pipelines
- The system follows Semantic Versioning 2.0.0. Major/Minor release every 4 to 6 weeks and patch release on demand with strategic planning of the Roadmap every month.
